Saosin
Saosin spent time on winter's Taste of Chaos tour before hooking up with Capitol Records in March 2005. After numerous compilation appearances, a self-titled Ep of demos and live cuts appeared that August; summer was spent on co-headlining dates with Anberlin. Saosin continued work on their eponymous full-length debut with Howard Benson, finally releasing the long-awaited disc in September 2006. Plenty of touring followed well into the next year, including dates with bands like Senses Fail, Bleeding Through, A Static Lullaby, and Poison the Well. In March 2008, Saosin released Come Close, a live CD/DVD. The band toured relenetlessly playing festivals and headline gigs throghout 2007 and 2008. Despite their touring schedule, they managed to record and complete In Search of Solid Ground, their proper sophomore full length effort, and release it in September of 2009. P.O.S.
A self-taught bassist, guitarist, keyboardist, and drummer, P.O.S. (which stands for a variety of things, including Product of Society, Piece of Sh*t, and Promise of Skill) spent most of his childhood influenced by the energy of punk, drumming for Cadillac Blindside and singing and playing guitar for Building Better Bombs. At 14, however, he was introduced to hip-hop via Company Flow and Oddjobs, and began rapping for fun, performing at small venues around Minneapolis. In 2004 P.O.S. put out his first solo album, Ipecac Neat, with the label/collective (that he co-formed) Doomtree, whose studio was in the basement of the house that many of the members shared. Rhymesayers was so impressed with it that they immediately signed the rapper and re-released the record, as well as the successive P.O.S. releases Audition (2006) and the sprawling Never Better (2009).
Innerpartysystem
Innerpartysystem is four guys who were reared in the bleak small towns that surround Reading, Pennsylvania. The weathered houses, rusted factories and sprawling farms make this the landscape of true America. These environments are stark and mechanical, and they are pregnant with dark and anxious hope - sentiments that Patrick Nissley, Innerpartysystem’s main songwriter, carries in his writing. Innerpartysystem have a distinctive vision, as their songs incorporate throbbing electronic beats that nod towards Autechre, Chemical Brothers and Squarepusher but also the melodic and aggressive energy that’s not far from what you’d find in Nine Inch Nails or Ministry or hardcore punk. However, don’t be mislead, despite their darker leanings their vision is coiled in music to which you can dance. Not the mindless dance music that one might find saturating the dance clubs today, but rather a sort that is predicated on a release of sharp energy. This is what makes Innerpartysystem special.
Eye Alaska
After two consecutive years stunning the packed crowd at Bamboozle Left from the main stage, Eye Alaska will test the waters with Genesis Underground as a live show beginning this summer, including a run supporting The Cab starting in June. As if their ever-changing sound wasn’t enough to keep the pot stirring, the band takes time to see the bigger picture with charity work selling limited-edition Eye Alaska backpacks with all proceeds going to sponsoring children in Africa. It’s just another statement in the way Eye Alaska have branded themselves as the band who live without borders.
