This vast, clubby dining room is an odd place to find some accomplished cooking. Chef Jason Skinner’s appetizers are uniformly compelling; his Maker’s Mark pork chop is killer. Pastry chef Kara Blair turns out sophisticated desserts. Closed Sunday. Full bar.

Remember Loft 610, the sprawling restaurant on the northern edge of Plano where Top Chef favorite Tre Wilcox ruled the roost? The short-lived spot felt like a nightclub where the partyers never showed up.
When owner Brian Twomey sold the place, taking Wilcox with him to open Marquee Grill and Bar in Highland Park Village, I was a tad dubious about the Plano spot’s future. The new owner, Scott Siers, changed the name to Social 121, gave it a motto (“Eat. Drink. Love.”) and set about to recast it as a more casual interactive entertainment place, with a nightclub on the side, like Loft 610. But, Siers told me in a phone interview, “We’re not in the restaurant business, and we’re not in the nightclub business. We’re in the entertainment business.” The focus, he said, would be on “the whole social aspect, with social networking. We want it to be a social gathering place, for people to dance, dine and enjoy themselves.” (Full review)
