Top-notch dim sum is served all day in this attractive dining room in a spiffy Asian strip mall. On weekends, carts make the rounds; during the week, you order from the menu. Standouts include steamed sticky rice with minced pork, steamed shrimp dumplings with garlic chives, char sui bao, barbecue beef fun roll and mango pudding. At dinner, Peking duck and live Dungeness crab dishes make delicious statements. No alcohol. BYOB. No corkage fee.

Although the selection is not huge, some of the best dim sum around is to be had at J.S. Chen’s, where chef Qi Rui Zhou’s dumplings stand out for their finesse and excellent fillings. The sticky rice in lotus leaf, chock-full of mushrooms, Cantonese sausage, chicken, pork and more, is far and away the best around; the pretty little steamed cha siu bao are filled with the most savory, meaty pork. Sesame balls, hot and greaseless, ooze with sweet red bean paste. Dinner is as outstanding as dim sum: This is the place for live Dungeness crab. Stuffed with fried rice and bathed in spicy garlic sauce, it’s terrific. So is the Peking duck. No alcohol; BYOB. (Full review)
If you think good dim sum means long waits, a cavernous room with all the charm of a banquet hall and brusque service, you haven't been to J.S. Chen's Dimsum and BBQ. The modest-size dining room, in a spiffy newish Asian shopping mall on Legacy Drive, has a touch of style. And the dim sum at J.S. Chen's isn't just good, it's excellent. (Full review)
