Even after various incarnations – Lewis Carroll's original 19th-century books, several movies, Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit," a hipped-out miniseries on Syfy – the story of Alice in Wonderland is best viewed as a series of vivid characters and fragments: the Cheshire Cat, the Dormouse, the journey down the rabbit hole. The images, or more specifically the gifts of imagination, turn out to be more important and indelible than the story. (Full review)
