Sabrina Watson (Paula Patton) is a successful corporate lawyer who comes from an old-money family. When she meets Jason Taylor (Laz Alonso), she thinks she's found Mr. Right and eagerly accepts the Wall Street worker's marriage proposal after a whirlwind courtship. However, when Sabrina's aristocratic parents (Angela Bassett, Brian Stokes Mitchell) ]meet Jason's postal-worker mother (Loretta Devine) at their estate on Martha's Vineyard, the class division seems very wide indeed.

very good movie
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It touched on issues and sterotypes that we've often accepted as normal behavior. Family secrets were exposed in addition to misuse of the bible. Very well done. A must have in your library

It shouldn’t seem as novel as it does. In Jumping the Broom, we find a comedic drama that acknowledges black people come from different social classes and have different temperaments. Some wear braids. Some rock headphones. Some speak French. All are characters, not mere symbols, involved in a storyline that has a great deal of fun with the obvious fact that black life isn’t some monolithic phenomenon. (Full review)
