Like an angry tenant bent on revenge, the movie industry has depicted the destruction of Los Angeles with staggering consistency if not a wealth of imagination. Natural disaster (Earthquake, 2012)? Hook it up. Postwar apocalypse (The Omega Man)? Bummer, dude. And if all else fails, the beaches, skyscrapers and bumper-to-bumper freeways don’t stand a chance under a good old-fashioned alien invasion. (Full review)
