A French-inspired, casual dining spot from Chef Papa, who founded Café de France in the 1980s. Some of the most expensive entrees – lamb chops and tenderloin – are excellent values. Other less pricey options, such as veal piccata and chicken schnitzel, are good, too. Add the great pommes frites to any sandwich or burger at lunch for a buck. Breakfast served till 4 p.m. Complimentary wine with dinner. BYOB.

I travel to Paris and southern France quite a bit and have learned to seek out the places that the local's visit instead of the high profile tourist spots. My two visits to Chez Moi were very good and brought me back to some of my favorite haunts in France. Great cooking of the standard favorites, with all the unique flavors are usually found only in France. On our second visit, they featured a unusual entree I've only seen in France - done perfectly. We like to sit in the small section right by the front door and chat with Chef Papa (the owner) and his Swiss wife. Tip - always order the set menu - the price is right and it seems that they take special care to balance out the dishes from a flavor and texture standpoint. It is a great way to enjoy a dinner together, and compared to what a typical French place would charge for a similar meal - the best deal in the Metroplex.
I visited this place once only with a friend, and was surprised at the complimentary wine, too. The service was ok; the waiter was new at this, I think, but he tried hard, and had a sweet disposition. Now for the food: the brie appetizer was not the goopy mess I'd expected but was light and perfect. The tenderloin special was served over mashed potatoes and asparagus, and was juicy and tender. Despite all my best intentions, I gobbled up every bite. Can't wait to go back!

Chez Moi in Frisco is such a study in contradictions that after three visits, I couldn't shake Charles Dickens' famous "best of times ... worst of times" line from my brain. (Full review)
