*The Dallas Morning News has selected this location as one of the Top 100 Restaurants in D-FW.*
An aren’t-we-lucky-to-be-here vibe fills this intimate izakaya (Japanese tavern). Build your own bento box at lunch. At dinner, mix or match bar snacks like lotus root tempura and Japanese pizza with seasonal and whimsical specials such as chef’s special sushi rolls, sake steamed mussels, Hokkaido scallops, whole fried snapper and cook-it-yourself Wagyu beef. The kabocha cheesecake sells out; reserve a slice when you sit down. Best patio in town. Full bar. Closed Sunday.

Two years ago I was in Shinjuku Station, a busy train hub in Tokyo, hungry and lost. I’d set out to find a famed izakaya and ended up in a fog of jet lag. I literally did not know which way to turn. Kindhearted strangers got me on track, and when I arrived at the small-plates restaurant I settled in to what can best be described as a dignified feeding frenzy. I was transported back to the thrill of that meal recently by Fort Worth’s Shinjuku Station, opened in July by Mary and Jarry Ho, in collaboration with Casey and Elyssa Kha. The Hos also own the longtime favorite Tokyo Cafe. (Full review)
