This cozy, romantic French-continental spot, a Dallas favorite since 1977, is the place for brie soup and old-fashioned dishes like seafood thermidor, steak Diane and big, puffy, well-made Grand Marnier soufflés. Depending on which dining room you land in, the service can be very slow. Try to sit in back. Live piano music is a plus. No smoking area. Full bar. The wine list, which specializes in midpriced French vintages, also offers California selections and specials.

There's something wonderfully reassuring about St. Martin's Wine Bistro, especially this time of year. Walk in, the welcome's warm, the lights are low, the piano's tinkling and Santa's in the kitchen.
Santa's in the kitchen? Yes, that would be chef Alfred Santamaria, who has been heading up the St. Martin's kitchen for more than 11 years. The staff, says general manager John Sarvarian, calls him Santa. (Full review)
If old-fashioned French is what you're after, St. Martin's Wine Bistro is a worthy practitioner of the style. The menu's written in French (with translations, of course), but the service is anything but snooty. (Full review)
