Nico Sanchez presides over the kitchen at this appealing North Dallas interior Mexican spot with a pleasant patio and terrific salsa. Standout dishes include the rich chicken soup called sopa de lima; ceviche; cochinita pibíl; and chuleta de puerco. For lunch, there’s a terrific torta filled with braised pork and tacos made with fresh corn tortillas made from corn ground in-house. Full bar.

Sitting on the covered patio at MesoMaya at lunch the other day, I almost, almost felt I was lounging under a palapa in Baja California. The feeling was so right — light, breezy, relaxed. I looked out beyond the wide-open giant awning windows, expecting to see the Pacific Ocean off in the distance; instead, my eyes feasted on a North Dallas office building, a water tower, a sea of Ford F-150s in the parking lot. Nevertheless, how lovely on a lazy Saturday to treat oneself to a good Mexican lunch.
MesoMaya’s dining room is as appealing as the patio, with high ceilings, a bar in the center, lots of reclaimed wood. There’s a nice view into the kitchen as you enter, and the smart-looking procession of ceviches in their cheerful parfait glasses makes it easy to decide what to start with one night at dinner.
