This cavernous Uptown bar is quite the crowded, noisy scene. But it can also be mighty pleasant, especially at quieter times of day, and especially on the huge patio along the trail. That’s a fine place to sample one of the two dozen Texas beers on tap and some of the quite good bar food, ranging from the deep-fried jalapeño “bottle caps” and huge onion rings to the juicy burgers and slow-smoked barbecue. Full bar.

The first couple of times I walked into the Katy Trail Ice House, I felt a lot like Sgt. Murtaugh, the Danny Glover character in the Lethal Weapon movies. That’s the guy who, as he lumbers and groans his way through shootouts and car chases, keeps repeating his catchphrase, “I’m getting too old for this [insert expletive here].” The Katy Trail is basically a great big bar, usually a mighty noisy and crowded one. And my days of getting my jollies in noisy, crowded bars are one marriage, one kid, a handful of mortgages and several jobs behind me.
But Katy Trail is so eager to please, its sense of fun so infectious, that it grows on you pretty quickly. (Full review)
