The cozy wine bistro, opened in 1972 and now owned by Brian C. and Courtney Luscher (chef and general manager, respectively), offers bistro favorites such as steak frites and bistro-style mussels, along with more ambitious dishes. The restaurant felt a bit aesthetically tired to me when I first dined there about a year ago, so I was heartened to hear in early May that Brian, who is chef (Courtney is general manager and sommelier) had brought on a sous-chef with an impressive résumé, Danyele McPherson. Chef Luscher’s press release mentioned that McPherson’s influence would be reflected on the Grape’s menu — a promising notion, especially as her last gig had been at Stephan Pyles, where among other things she’d been one of the cooks involved in Fuego, Pyles’ forward-looking, fire-happy tasting menu.
