I want to love Abacus more than I do. After dining there five times since I first came to Dallas, I must confess that I don’t understand what all the fuss is about. For me, what happens on the plate never manages to thrill the way cooking at this level and at this (high) price point should. It often pleases, but rarely delights or impresses. (Full review)

After a recent overhaul of the entire restaurant, including a sharp-looking redo of the bar and an augmentation of the wine program, Kent Rathbun's flagship is more of a draw than ever. It impresses continually that the restaurant can create a five-star dining experience (definably New American with some global-minded touches) in an atmosphere where you feel as comfortable decked out as you do in jeans – albeit designer ones. I'm picky and this place is great.

I've lived here for several years, and I've been to most of the "top restaurants" in the city. This one lives up to the billing. I went on a Tuesday night and had the 9 course tasting menu with my wife. It was spectacular. From succulent fish to correctly cooked short ribs the entire meal was an adventure. Another weekend we ordered Eastern fair from the menu, and I was equally pleased. The cocktails served in the bar were pretty rocking as well (I apologize for my early 90's reference). In any case, I would HIGHLY recommend eating here.

If You Like To Pay High Prices For Mediocre Food & Experience Rude Service You'll Love Abacus!

It may be a sign of the tough economic times, but the food quality has deteriorated significantly while prices have remained the same- high. The food was just okay--nothing spectacular which is disappointing considering my previous good experiences led me to tout to the guests that I brought along how fabulous the place is. The average per person cost for our table was about $100 per person with 2 appetizers, 1 shared dessert & no alcoholic beverages. The older hostess that greeted us at the front was rude and snotty, and the waitstaff seemed overwhelmed. Overall: overpriced mediocre food + Snotty Attitudes = Not Worth It!

Superb

After a bad experience at the mansion at turtle creek, we left and went to Abacus. Abacus excelled with their service, food, atmosphere, and hospitality to create a memorable experience. It is our favorite restaurant in the metroplex.

Fantastic!

No matter what I order at Abacus, I am always delighted. They have a perfect approach from food to ambiance. Highly Recommended!
