With an ever-changing menu that draws on cuisines from around the world, René Peeters’ bistro in the former York Street is long on hospitality; an evening there feels like dinner in a friend’s home. If the Belgian endives are on offer, don’t miss them. Wine and beer only. Dinner only, except open for lunch on Friday. Closed Sunday and Monday.

All around a perfect evening!
We had a wonderful meal at Bistro Watel's! The toasts are always welcoming and delicious, the wine is very fairly priced. For salads, we had a ceasar and a thai salad off the blackboard which was amazing. The entrees were scallops (lime & ginger) and steak au poivre, also off the blackboard. All the food was as wonderful as we've come to expect from a Watel's restaurant. The service was amazing. They gave us a palatte cleansing sorbet, and a little bubbly with cookies to top it all off. The atmosphere of the new location is charming and very comfortable. All around a perfect evening!

It must have taken a lot of nerve to open a restaurant in the small house in Old East Dallas that used to be York Street, Sharon Hage’s beloved restaurant that closed last November. But René Peeters was up to the challenge. The easygoing chef, a fixture on the Dallas dining scene for more than two decades, has brought his freewheeling style of cooking, which draws on cuisines from around the world (born in what was then Belgian Congo, he has lived all over the globe), to that hallowed space.
I’m glad he did: That dining room suits his laid-back, people-pleasing style perfectly. (Full review)
