Opened Feb. 10, 2011.
UPDATE (6/6/2011): Chef Michael Brown, who made a splash when he opened Alma in February, has left the restaurant, says Tristan Simon, whose Consilient Restaurants owns the Henderson Avenue Mexican spot. Simon has named Anastacia Quinones executive chef; promoting her from the sous-chef position.

Consilient Restaurants has also opened a regional Mexican place, Alma. Executive chef Michael Brown heads the kitchen, in the former Cuba Libre space. Brown comes to Dallas via Los Angeles, where he was top toque at critically acclaimed Red O.
Chef Michael Brown’s modern, vibrant takes on Mexican regional dishes are the order of the day at this attractive, buzzy restaurant, part of Consilient Restaurants’ Henderson Avenue empire. Standout dishes include tacos de carnitas (with terrific house-made corn tortillas); seared Mexican diver scallops on a corn and poblano purée with smoked pork belly relish; and spicy, creamy “street corn,” smartly served in corn husks. Excellent margarita, great salsa. Full bar.

I can’t get Alma’s “street corn” out of my head: three adorable cups fashioned from corn husks and filled with grilled white kernels dressed with crema, mayo, lime juice, crumbled queso fresco, cilantro and a good dose of chile powder. Chef Michael Brown’s riff on elotes, it’s a mere side order. (Full review)
