This East Dallas pub, in the former digs of the Tipperary Inn, is a fine place for a drink, thanks to its gorgeous old wooden bar and encyclopedic menus of beers and Scotch whiskies. But the food — pub standards plus some ill-conceived Irish-Tex-Mex fusion — is entirely forgettable. Full bar. Smoking outside on the patio.

My guests and I were puzzled during a recent visit to Molly Maguire’s Ale House and Eatery. As we ate, the bar and the tables around us filled with people who seemed vaguely acquainted. And suddenly, the big Irish pub was packed — at 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday, with nary a football game in view. It was only when someone stepped to the microphone that all became clear: It was a wake. (Full review)
