Opened November 2010.
The vibrant bar, sprawling patio and striking, stylish dining room in a historic 1927 former schoolhouse can be a real scene on weekends; the place is more civilized during the week. Best dishes are small plates such as fried rock shrimp with celery root slaw; bacon-wrapped, chorizo-stuffed dates; or duck confit-dried cherry flatbread. The “skinny” cocktails are better than most. Full bar.

Walk into Saint Ann Restaurant and Bar, the stylish, breezy gathering place in the historic 1927 building that was once Dallas’ first school for Hispanic children, and you might well fall down. Yes, the leggy women and well-turned-out men crowding the bar are drop-dead gorgeous. But the reason you might fall is the floor: You’re standing on glass, suspended a few feet above a bed of pebbles by wooden supports. Even if you remember from your last visit to try to keep your balance, it is weirdly vertigo-inducing — a real hazard if you’re wearing the 5-inch heels that seem to be part of the dress code for women.
Carefully, carefully make your way to the bar. (Full review)
