Opened last year, this Deep Ellum restaurant is the least traditional of all the places included here; it’s a good choice for the less adventurous. Chef Tuyet Davis isn’t afraid of fusion, pairing Peking duck quesadillas with a bright, fresh Mexican salsa, for instance, to surprisingly good effect. I also loved the sugar-cane shrimp, pork fried rice and a tall, fluffy coconut cake. The attractive white-tablecloth dining room has more formal service than that offered at the other restaurants listed here, though it’s plenty casual, plus a selection of beer and wine.

For anyone who remembers East Wind in Deep Ellum, Lemongrass Asian Bistro will evoke a sense of déjà vu. If she's not in the kitchen, Tuyet Davis floats around the dining room greeting diners as if they were old friends. Some of them are – or at least longtime customers. (Full review)
