Lots of people associate Wolfgang Puck with Los Angeles (and with airport cafes), but one of his first jobs was in Dallas, where he worked at The Mansion on Turtle Creek. This year the überchef opened Five Sixty, the restaurant atop Reunion Tower. You want to show off your gorgeous city? Take your guests here. (Full review)

Five Sixty, Wolfgang Puck's new Asian fusion restaurant atop Reunion Tower, brings to mind a movie whose huge budget makes the studio nervous, but when it opens it's a huge hit – and every penny's right up there on the screen. The place has glamour! Sexy sizzle! Amazing views! Best of all, it's got spectacular food. (Full review)

Nothing Special, Except the View

Dim Sum - One star, undercooked and over processed (mushy).
Sushi - Two stars. O.K., but not any better than our local all-you-can-eat place.
Main Courses - Three stars. Good but nothing special. The duck was good but the fried rice must have been an Austrian version, not Chinese at all (not cooked correctly and they added a sauce with does not belong on fried rice).
Desserts - Four stars. They seem to have a very good pastry chef.
Wine Paring with Tasting menu - Four and one-half stars. They clearly have put a lot of though and expertize into paring each wine with each course (at least in the 7 course tasting menu).

Worst Food

My child's school used this restaurant as a caterer for an exclusive silent and live auction. I am glad the money went to a worthy cause, because the food was inedible--and not because it was served large scale. We had a wedge salad to start. I thought--how can a person screw up a wedge? I can tell you--very little blue cheese, little dressing, measly tomatoes. There wasn't even salt and pepper shakers on the tables. Then came the "entree"--a braised short rib, truffled mac and cheese and a fried green tomato. The entire entree was dry and had no sauces to accompany the dish. The mac and cheese had very little cheese and a poor pairing of cheeses at that. The green tomato was dry and tasteless. Then came desert--a dried up pecan tart.

The food was plated in such a way that it would have never passed food network critics, much less those who aren't paid critics. We will never consider eating at this restaurant.

This is supposed to be a good restaurant?

When we walked through the door we could have just as well been in an IHOP the way people were dressed. Although we had reservations we were told to go the bar. There were plenty of empty tables. We sat for 45 minutes at the bar only to realize they had forgotten about us. When we were seated our waitress was less than warm and fuzzy and the food.... Seeing as this is a WOLFGAN PUCK restaurant - the food was terrible. My husbands fish was overcooked and chewy. My chicken was just ok. Not even the cool rotating golbe would bring us back.

A Bust

The great atmosphere and view did not accompany the food or service. The food was slow and the proportions were small. Most of my group was still hungry after a 3 course meal. The manager was very nice after we told him our issues and brought us champagne and reduced the amount of the bill, but unfortunately I will spend the money to go somewhere else.

Great Addition to Dallas Dining

We went to Five Sixty to celebrate a birthday and our experience was wonderful! We were seated immediately (with reservations) at a table next to the window.

Our wait staff duo was very attentive - our glasses never got more than half empty, and they described everything they brought to the table. You do not get bread while you are waiting for your meal, but they did bring chili-sauteed green beans topped with candied walnuts - very good and with just the right amount of kick.

For appetziers, we had the salt and pepper calamari (the pickled ginger vinaigrette really made the flavors pop) and tiny dumplings, which were excellent. The green thai curry had large pieces of seafood, and was plated tableside. The alaskan halibut was perfect!

The servings are plentiful - we barely had room for desert, but we pressed on and enjoyed the baked alaska and apple "pie" - both the perfect ending to our meals.

We really enjoyed our experience and Five Sixty is a welcome addition to Dallas dining options!

Not Impressed

They automatically have atmosphere working for them since you get a view of the city from 560 ft. up. Service and food were lacking though. We went for restaurant week on a Saturday night. The shortribs were tough and fatty with some bits being unedible. The roasted pork loin was low on flavor and just had a couple mushrooms underneath it. The presentation looked awful since it was just some pork loin sliced up on a white plate. The quail was nice, no complaints there. We had the chocolate angel food cake for dessert. It was nothing you couldn't get at your local grocery store and it was only four bites (yes, four bites). Although, the two bites of ice cream with it were good.

The 3 courses were so small that it left both of us still hungry afterwards and we are not big eaters. After a $100 meal, I don't think it is good to be hungry afterwards.

They also decided to not participate in the Central Market free fourth course which was disappointing.

We felt a bit rushed. There were two of us and it only took 45 minutes to eat. I've never been to a nice restaurant that was under close to two hours for two people. We didn't even make it all the way around the ball. Our waitress never came by once to check how any of the food was or if we wanted more drinks. Water was kept full by the water guy though.

Overall, this was not what we expected from Wolfgang.

Complete Disappointment for Wife's Birthday

I made reservations here and was called 2 days before to confirm - so they had my phone #. When we got there we were told the turning mechanism wasn't working (they could have called to let us know) - we thought even then perhaps we might not go up but since we were there and parked... So we went up and on a Tuesday evening at 7:30 were seated at a tiny table for 2 with seats that looked like low setting bar stools. I asked for another chair and they brought something that had no arms on it. So I asked could we change our table to a booth (which looked very comfortable) and were told the policy was that only two people couldn't set at booths - now the place was basically empty. So I told them we were leaving and then they attempted to do something (not sure what since we were leaving) that sounded like they were getting us a different table - not booth. So from there we went to Craft which was also nearly empty and had an excellent meal. I will NEVER go back there since I will be treated like dirt if only my wife and I go.

Poor service and food!!

My husband made a dinner reservation for my birthday weeks in advance to eat 560 but were sadly disappointed. We were really looking forward to eating here after so many years of this location lacking a good restaurant. We were only able to get a 9:30pm reservation and when we were seated, our drinks arrived 15 minutes later and appetizers by 10:15pm. The service was poor as the waiters were not familiar with the wine list or the food menu. (Sushi is only served in the bar as well) We then did not receive our entrees UNTIL another 40 minutes later!!!!!! I was starving at this point and they do not serve any additional snacks such a bread, etc. I was not able to order a second cocktail as was too hungry to have any more alcohol. When they served my halibut, it was about 2 bites worth, no side dishes served as well. My husband ordered the whole sea bass that after it was taken apart by the staff, left him with little meat to actually eat. I knew we would have to stop somewhere else on the way home as we were still hungry.

My husband then ordered a souffle for dessert, and when it was brought out and he told the waiter there was supposed to be a candle it in, that he told staff about this special occasion when made the reservation and ALSO told the waiter when I got up and used the bathroom. The waiter serving the dessert ignored him, set down the dessert at the table and walked off, no apology, nothing! My husband then told another waiter what had happened and he offered to remove the item from our bill and bring out a new candle. A little too late for that. We never saw a manager during our entire dining experience as other fine dining establishments in Dallas ALWAYS have managers come around to greet guests, so we complained as we were walking out the door and swore we would NEVER return.

There are plenty of find dining restaurants in Dallas that give far better service and food that we will be returning to instead. I would skip the dining and just go up to the top if you want to see the view, have a drink and then leave.

Not so snazzy food & service

Six of us went there for a dinner and was very disappointed. It took us over 3.5 hours to get through the dinner on a Thursday night.

On the food. The ribeye roast for two looked beautiful when it first came out. Two servers explained how it was prepared in details then took it back to the kitchen to be carved. When it came back out over 10 minutes later, it was cold. Flavors were good but who wants to eat a cold steak? Others at our table ordered seafood which were so so. They tasted like banquet food.
The management did try to make up for the slow service with compted wine & dessert but that added another 30 minutes of waiting!
All of us at the table were foodies and we eat out a lot and this was a disappointing experience for all of us. We won't be rushing back.
