At Screen Door we bring back many time-tested mainstays from Grandma’s kitchen and add a new generation of dishes that think in fresh ways about Southern cuisine. And – in the tradition of Grandma – all our offerings are handcrafted and infused with a special love family, friends and flavorful food.
Relying heavily on the finest ingredients and locally produced meats and vegetables, Screen Door’s delicious, down-home dishes will please both traditional and adventurous palates alike. Our varied menus feature brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert and afternoon tea selections with a vast array of mouthwatering offerings.
Highlights include:
• Pheasant & Dumplings – a mouthwatering combination of braised pheasant, old-fashioned dumplings, pearl onions and more.
• The Ultimate Meatloaf – studded with foie gras bits and served with garlic-buttermilk mashers and tomato gravy
• Big Mama’s Fried Chicken & Waffle – Screen Door’s original black pepper waffle and a side of maple-brandy syrup
• Deconstructed Lobster “Pot Pie” – with young vegetables and a truffle corn puree
• Low Country Shrimp & Grits – braised prawns with tasso ham, roasted tomatoes and baked cheese grits
• Bronzed Filet Mignon – over a loaded baked potato cake with chili-fried oysters and Creole butter

Update from DallasNews.com, 11/25/09: Screen Door executive chef David McMillan reports that restaurateur Michael "Mico" Rodriguez, part of the recently hired new concept team, is out. McMillan calls Screen Door's developing menu "New South, like New American" and says he'll be "getting away from some of the formality."

Update from DallasNews.com, 10/28/09: David McMillan, who closed his 62 Main in Colleyville earlier this year, has resurfaced as executive chef at Screen Door, where Michael "Mico" Rodriguez, co-founder of Mi Cocina, has taken over day-to- day operations. This is the first project of MCM Restaurants, a brand development company made up of McMillan, Rodriguez, Robert Colombo (Trece, Villa-O ) and Teiichi Sakurai (Tei An). Former Screen Door executive chef Fitzgerald Dodd says he's going back to catering for the time being.

Chef David McMillan brings modern panache to Southern dishes in One Arts Plaza, setting seared foie gras with Southern Comfort sauce over stone-ground grits, for instance. It's the extras that often elevate – a warm potato, andouille and blue cheese salad with a grilled rib-eye, or porky, cooked-just-so collard greens served in a cast-iron pan. The management of downtown development One Arts Plaza deserves a year-end award of its own for introducing three of the year's best restaurants to the dining scene – all locally owned, thank you kindly. With Screen Door, owner Scott Jones shifted direction from his Cafe Italia concepts toward upscale Southern dining. (Full review)
Last fall, the Dallas food world was thrown for a loop by a management coup d'etat at Screen Door, the gracious Southern restaurant in One Arts Plaza. Things have settled down enough that it now feels much like it did before the coup. (Full review)
