A small neighborhood Middle Eastern spot where you can put together a good meal. Appetizers like eggplant dip, hummus and stuffed grape leaves are fresh and lively. The rack of lamb and grilled kebabs of ground beef and lamb are savory and juicy. Try the homemade baklava. No alcohol; BYOB.

I have fallen in love with a dip. Mind you, I am not quoting my wife on our wedding day. Rather, I am speaking of the eggplant purée served at Sevan G&G Cafe. Thanks to my Eastern European forebears, I come from a long line of aubergine eaters; I was basically weaned on the Romanian version of baba ghanoush. But the dip served at Sevan is unusual and delicious: The roasted eggplant is mixed with tahini (sesame-seed paste), yogurt and olive oil. The result is creamy white, unctuous, slightly tangy – and thoroughly addictive. (Full review)
