Lemongrass recently opened on Elm Street in Deep Ellum, serving what owner Khoa Nguyen describes as "refined Vietnamese cooking." Tuyet Davis, last seen at East Wind, is the chef. Dishes include sugar cane shrimp spring rolls; seared steak spring rolls; Peking duck quesadillas; French-style Vietnamese crêpes with shrimp, scallops and mung beans; and pork tenderloin sauté with black bean sauce and scallions.

Our first trip to lemongrass was an absolute treat. Very serene atmosphere, pleasant. attendant staff, and the food....I've become absolutely addicted to the the spinach pasta with shrimp. I crave it all the time and have to stop myself from over spending my restaurant monthly budget here. My new favorite is the shrimp with lemongrass, vermicelli, cilantro, lettuce and peanuts.
It's a great place for a nice, mellow date or a fancy lunch. At lunch time a salad or soup and small desert come with your meal. Love the salads too, and I need to try the soup.
I would NOT listen to the bad reviewers on here. When I saw those I thought they must be confusing the restaurant with somewhere else or just had a bad day.
This place is GREAT, and I go all the time. The food is delicious. I've started bringing more friends and they keep going back and going back, commenting on how yummy it is and how kind the servers are.
Oh, and they have a really nice patio out back. You also get to check out the newly opened Trees next door. These are great new places in Deep Ellum.
FIVE stars! Yum!
I went to Lemongrass thinking it was East Wind so I was disappointed when I didn't enjoy the food, because I only heard good things about East Wind. I found out that the actual location is in uptown. The food lacked quality. For the price and location of the restaurant, I expected much more.
East Wind is one of my favorite restaurants, and I was disappointed when they moved from Deep Ellum because I work downtown and it was very convenient. I still love the new East Wind in the Quandrangle, but I'm very happy that the former East Wind owner has opened up Lemongrass in Deep Ellum.
The menu is almost the same as East Wind, but my favorite dish (the one with chicken, potatoes, onions in coconut curry) was not listed. However, the lovely waiter at Lemongrass said they could make it for me anyway.
Great food, great lunch specials (soup or salad and dessert included with entree), and great people. Plus, there is free parking across the street (although it's a small lot).
I hope Lemongrass helps Deep Ellum stay alive!

For anyone who remembers East Wind in Deep Ellum, Lemongrass Asian Bistro will evoke a sense of déjà vu. If she's not in the kitchen, Tuyet Davis floats around the dining room greeting diners as if they were old friends. Some of them are – or at least longtime customers. (Full review)
