Small is beautiful at IV, the micro-lounge in Uptown that could be described as the anti- Ghostbar, the anti- Suite. It's just down from the corner of State and Allen, next to a barbershop. The door is unadorned. Inside, IV is about the size of a Preston Hollow walk-in closet, a 600-square-foot rectangle with a cathedral ceiling. The DJ squeezes into an opaque aerie above the restroom. Fixtures and furnishings are typical VIP-club plush, the music conversation-friendly groove lounge, the servers chic-sleek.

Mr. Dallas has seen the future, and it is ... tiny. He isn't generally given to blushing infatuations over nightspots, but he is feeling giddy after first exposure to IV, the smoke-free micro-lounge in Uptown. The place is just down from the corner of State and Allen, next to a dry cleaner. The door is unadorned. There's a velvet rope in front - a short length of velvet rope - and a clipboard on a stool does sentry duty. Inside, IV is about the size of a Preston Hollow walk-in closet. The room is narrow but tall; the DJ is positioned in an opaque perch above the (one-holer) restroom. The bar, literally looking like any den's wet bar, could seat two people, if there were any seats. The walls are upholstered, with big mirrors to reduce the claustrophobia. The furnishings are typical ultra-lounge plush. During a brief look-see May 12, two days after IV opened, the music was also typically loungey, circa Monica-gate 1998, but we all have our nostalgias. It beat the predictable pop/hip-hop mixes that were spewing at Clear and Mantus the same evening.
