Mark Wayne Glasmire writes songs the old-fashioned way, with thoughtful attention to melody and lyrics.
He pens vignettes about life and the important moments that help shape one’s existence. And then he sings them with a soothing voice that sounds as though he’s performing in your living room instead of on a compact disc.
The Arlington-based artist’s fourth independent release, Life Goes On, encapsulates his creativity in a dozen tunes, 10 of which are originals. Glasmire fills the void left by the deaths of John Denver, Harry Chapin and Dan FogelbergÖ. Stylistically, he could stand right alongside James Taylor. Those are his contemporaries. So Glasmire’s target audience is the over-35 crowd.
But anybody who appreciates good songwriting would hear the merit in tracks such as “You Opened My Eyes” and “Our Love Remains,” two adult, honest love songs devoid of sappiness. The lovely “Missing You” honors the memory of a late loved one. And “Life Goes On,” with its haunting melody, talks about growing old, accepting bad news and moving on.
Glasmire truly is a throwback to a bygone era, the kind that who can just pick up an acoustic guitar and weave a little musical magic.
