The Color Purple proved such a hit for the Dallas Summer Musicals as its 2008 State Fair show that the company is already bringing it back for a one-week run beginning Tuesday. The stage adaptation stays closer to the plot of the Alice Walker novel than the movie version did. Despite the many dark and sorrowful elements, there’s a lot of sweep and joyful energy in the musical.
