With provocative talk-show hosts more controversial than ever, it’s a great time to revive Eric Bogosian’s Talk Radio. A Pulitzer Prize finalist, filmed by Oliver Stone, and recently revived on Broadway, this 1987 script was “ripped from the headlines,” as they say on the playwright’s current TV acting gig, "Law and Order: Criminal Intent." Upstart Productions and Project X: Theatre are reviving the show at the Green Zone in the Design District. Elias Taylorson is playing the shock-jock leading role that Bogosian himself did in the first production and in the movie. The talented Regan Adair, who doesn’t seem to have had a directing job here since Classical Acting Company closed down three years ago, is staging the show.

Talk Radio at the Green Zone proves that good stage actors are good at acting –while they're on stage. Upstart Productions and Project X: Theatre co-produced this revival of Eric Bogosian's 20-year-old script, reviewed Thursday. The play's indictment of empty media chatter seems almost quaint two decades later, since we have gone much farther down the road of dumbing down the culture. Now we have gross-out reality TV and ranting blogs to complain about, in addition to mere shock jocks. (Full review)
