You might find it a little odd that the woman who has virtually become Kitchen Dog Theater’s house playwright lives in Minneapolis. Allison Moore, a Texas native, did go to school at Southern Methodist University, though. And Dallas isn’t the only non-Minnesota city to go crazy for her work. The prestigious Humana Festival in Louisville, Ky., has also been a big springboard for her success.
Kitchen Dog has featured world premieres of three Moore plays as the centerpieces of its annual spring New Play Festivals. Tonight it presents the regional premiere of the comedy Slasher, the hit of the 2009 Humana Festival. The talented Tina Parker directs, as she did in 2007 for Moore’s award-winning End Times.
In Slasher, Sheena, played by Martha Harms, is a young actress whose big break has come — a role in a low-budget horror flick. Sheena’s feminist mom, Frances (Lisa Hassler), objects to the project. She’ll try anything to sabotage it.
