CLOSED: Masaryk Modern Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Lounge
There's no shortage of Mexican restaurants in the Dallas area, but Masaryk manages to introduce combinations that are new and interesting without being weird and unpleasant. I had the duck tacos which were served with an outstanding sweet and spicy sauce and were magnificent. My companions had the sea bass tacos and raved about them as well. Great atmosphere, great service, great food.
Exceptional food, service and atmosphere. Wonderful recipes, flavor combinations and presentation. Note the word modern in the name of the restaurant. This is not your ordinary run of the mill Tex-Mex. There is a small section of the menu devoted to the more traditional Tex-Mex, which is very good. However I strongly recommend the more creative and inspired menu options. I wish I lived or worked closer so I could eat there 3 to 5 times a week.
There was nothing bland about my food. I had the Sea Bass Tacos and they were divine. Our table of 8 ordered a number of different dishes and not one person was disappointed, not one scrap was left on a plate. The service was excellent and the chef seemed to genuinely care about his customers. I will eat there again soon and can't wait to try the other dishes that intrigued me.
Happy to have a new menu to try for a coworkers birthday, four of us ventured out to give Masaryk a try.
The lunch menu was very limited, so all four of us ordered from the regular menu.
Let me just say the fare was bland and uninspired. The avocado slices were crunchy, the portions were skimpy and the best thing on the table was the refried black beans. Eat them with the chips, and they'll complete the meal!
Don't try the aguas (infused waters). They are overpriced for the portion size and we sent them back and got regular sodas.
We ended our lunch with a flan for the birthday girl, which we all tried. There was no flavor to the flan, and its consistency was all wrong. Rather than a heavy, smooth custard, this flan was dry, airy and tasted like cardboard. The dollop of cream on the top tasted like it had been sitting in a refrigerator for too long.

Sometimes very good is good enough. That could be the case at Masaryk Modern Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Lounge, where chef Gabriel DeLeon makes a snappy ceviche in the form of terrific little "tostaditas." But glimmers of excellence at the 2-month-old Addison restaurant make me wish that DeLeon could take everything to the lofty level he sometimes achieves on the plate. (Full review)
